Revised July 2010
The Melbourne is another fabulous home that can be used either on the ground or as a skyhome, and comes in two unique offerings.
THE MELBOURNE HOUSE
A 2-storey open-plan home that combines simplicity with elegance and which is designed to look good in any setting. The two floors are entirely open-plan, and offer exceptionally flexible living space measuring some 25×15 metres, on a 20×30 metre platform. The front aspect of the house has double doors, and a veranda. When the house is used on the ground, a section of the veranda railing can be easily detached, and steps are provided for easy access. When used as a skyhome, the steps can be detached after rezzing.
Above the veranda is a full-length balcony serving the upper floor, with double doors providing access.
Window tinting and Indirect Lighting
The Melbourne includes my window tinting / indirect lighting system. By day the windows feature lace curtains that provide a degree of privacy. At night, these change to closed hanging drapes to provide complete privacy. In addition hidden lighting effects provide an subtle external glow to the house, giving the impression that light from inside is filtering out from behind the blinds. Additionally, you can manually “open” or “close” the blinds at any time by touching any window and selecting the required state from the displayed menu.
Other Features
- NDE-scripted doors: set your doors for group access, or run a defined list of people able to use them. Lock your doors for increased privacy.
- Lighting system: use the light switches located on each floor to turn the lights on / off. The lights on each floor work independently of one another.
- Fireplace: say “on” in Chat to light the fire, or “x” to put it out. The fireplace is also independent of the rest of the house, and so can be moved between walls to suit your needs, or simply removed from the house after rezzing if you prefer not to use it.
THE MELBOURNE ULTIMATE
The Melbourne Ultimate is the ultimate in home living. Featuring all the aspects of the Melbourne House, the Ultimate additionally features a fabulous sunken seating area on the lower floor, complete with 3 couches for you and your family, accented by bookcases and cupboards.
The three sofas come complete with quality 30-sec animation loops supplied by Craig Altman (Bits’n'Bobs), and also include a total of 7 different leather fabric finishes and colour-selectable cushions (4 colours). Both the fabric finish and the cushion colours can be quickly and easily changed at the click of a built-in controller.
The seating area is finished off with a reversable rug, a large glass-topped table and two of my “Dahlia” table lamps. All of these can be moved / removed after rezzing, according to your needs.
The ultimate thus provides an essential part of your SL living experience – and still leaves plenty of room or for your own furniture both downstairs and upstairs, the spiral staircase ensuring the absolutely minimum of space is lost to moving between the two floors of the house.
